Janklow was the 28th Governor of South Dakota from 1979-1987 and 1995-2003. He also served as Attorney General for South Dakota from 1971 to 1978. In 2002 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives for South Dakota’s At-Large congressional district. He served in the House from 2003 until 2004 when he resigned after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in an auto accident. He was also found guilty of reckless driving and other charges related to the incident.
