Durant is married to LeeAnn Hooper and together they have three children: Christopher, Joshua, and Elizabeth.
Durant joined the Army in 1979, becoming a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter pilot. He was part of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) during his service with the Army.
