Sandi has an estimated height of 5’3″ and weighed around 130 pounds. Her parents were John and Helen Sanders, both natives of Greenville, Mississippi. Sandi has two siblings, a brother, and a sister. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she earned her BA in political science in 1981. 

After graduating, she relocated to Chicago and worked as legislative director for then-Congressman Mel Reynolds from 1992 to 1995. In 1997, she was appointed by Mayor Richard M. Daley to the Chicago Board of Education and subsequently elected in 1999. She was re-elected in 2003 and 2007. In 2011, she stepped down from her position as Alderman to become a full-time mother and care for her ill husband, former Congressman Jesse L. Jackson Jr., who is currently serving time on felony charges.

Sandi Jackson is a former Chicago Alderman, who served alongside her husband, the former Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. Sandi and Jesse were married from 1991 until their divorce in 2018. Sandi is an attorney, with a degree from Northwestern University Law School. Sandi and Jesse have two children, Jessica and Jesse III.

In 2013, Sandi and Jesse pled guilty to misuse of campaign funds. Sandi was sentenced to 12 months in prison, for filing false tax returns, while Jesse received a 30-month sentence for theft and fraud. Sandi served her sentence at the Federal Prison Camp Alderson in West Virginia from October 2013 to September 2014.
